Romanesque art is one of the most relevant distinguishing marks within Las Loras, since it represents one of the largest clusters of this type of art in Europe. Almost every village has a Romanesque church or chapel. Although great monasteries, like San Andrés de Arroyo or Santa María la Real, can be found, most of the buildings are small town churches with fine architecture and very well integrated in the landscape, telling us about the Middle Ages religious culture and about the historical times of the Christian resettlement, by the time these territories were frontier lands.
